South Wingfield Cricket Club has this week announced the news that player favourite Nigel Ashmore will be returning as third team captain as of 2017.
Ashmore, who has a wealth of experience from playing at the highest level will take over the reigns from John Power who has helped to form a very stable side.
Club Chairman Andrew Mitchell, took to Facebook to announce the news saying: ” I can’t emphasise enough my personal thanks on behalf of the whole of the club what a great job John Power did”
In his final year at the helm, Power, despite all his best efforts, had a season ruined by rain which saw a very unlucky relegation and one that was well beyond his control.
Despite falling back into division 10 the club hopes that by growing its selection pool of players the team can push for promotion this coming season.
By appointing Ashmore as captain, the youthful side can look to his style of play as they further aim to develop their skills.
As no stranger to the role as captain, those who have played under his leadership before were the first to voice their delight at the decision.
A high order batsman brandishing a very aggressive style of play, Ashmore certainly has the cricketing brain to bring success back to the side he helped to setup originally.
With both the second and first team looking to better their final standings of the 2016 campaign, it’s now up to the third team players to be pushing for a new role.
Vice Captain, Anthony Crick, was again another player who was thrilled by the decision as he also touched on what a brilliant job John Power had done.
Only a few weeks remain before winter nets begin for the club who may be about to enter one of the most pivotal years in its coming future.
